New work seen through sunlight
I believe sunshine makes us better
Sunshine makes us better people. I can feel it in my bones. We here in New England have exited the dark season of winter and have passed through the season of gloom which we accidentally call Spring.
The daffodils Michael planted cheered me up against the gray skies last month and made their way into a new watercolor. The hyacinth I brought into the house made it smelled heavenly. I made a lovely video of this piece on my instagram
Needless to say the seasons are controlling my mood more than I care to admit. My son who is currently stationed in San Diego has been complaining about the weather (like any true New Englander) about the weather in California. Read that again…COMPLAINING ABOUT SAN DIEGO WEATHER. He says he misses the seasons so every time it is freezing and raining sideways, I send him a picture.
This brings me to the newest print release.

The title is “Restless” because isn’t it just like humanity always wanting some sort of change, but I believe, that restlessness can be beautiful.
I admit that going to grade school in Hawaii left an indelible mark on my soul—especially the way sunlight plays and dances across nature, objects, and people.
I’ll never forget the sunny, grassy playground of my school—swinging as high as I could toward the sky while the other children patiently waited at the edge of the large, sturdy swing set, their turn to try to touch the clouds with their feet.
The green, the perfect purple shadows, and the cerulean skies feel permanently etched inside me. These two works just returned from the studio, and when I look at them, they hold the innocence and sensual texture of days just like that.

Desiring more sunshine and more abundant growth is part of being human—and to be human is to be romantic.
You can find a collection of available works at MonicaLeeStudios.com.
Until next time, Monica.
